Artec 3D Space Spider review
In this price range, the Artec Space Spider has few competitors, mainly the Creaform Handyscan series (also handheld devices but more expensive). Compared to the Artec Eva, the Space Spider performance is a lot better, but again keep in mind each scanner is intended for different applications. If you don’t need high-precision scanning then the Eva will likely be a better fit, as it’s faster and offers a wider field of view (and it’s also cheaper!).
The upgraded hardware of the Space Spider allows for a fast warm-up and a constant performance during operation, which is a key feature for metrology and reverse engineering applications. That said, the steep price hike between the Spider ($22,600) and the Space Spider ($27,600) may turn off some potential buyers.
Artec 3D Space Spider overview
The Artec Space Spider is a professional portable 3D scanner made by Artec 3D.
Artec Space Spider features
The Artec Space Spider uses a blue LED structured light technology to 3D scan a wide variety of small detailed subjects and their textures (colors):
- mechanical parts
- body parts (hand, foot, ear)
The 3D scanner Artec Space Spider has a very interesting price to performance ratio and can be used for various uses cases such as reverse engineering, body scan or museum conservation. The Space Spider uses the same sensors as the Spider but has upgraded electronics. The warming up time is decreased from 30 to 3 minutes.
It is recommended to buy this 3D scanner with the Artec Studio software suite. Artec Studio is a powerful tool for an optimized 3D scanning process. This software is capable of aligning, stitching and repairing 3D scans.
