Of course, the resulting 3D model cannot be compared with results from a laser or structured light 3D scanner. The main use case for this type of scan is CGI (computer-generated imagery), where you just need the object’s appearance and not a highly-detailed point cloud. I wouldn’t recommend this type of app for professional reverse engineering, for example, though it has been done for simple use cases.
Once you get the hang of it and start knowing which objects will or won’t work, you can get some excellent, colorful 3D scans. I think KIRI Engine is a very cool app for anyone to experiment with photogrammetry at home, with friends, kids, …
